SECTION 4: SUBSTANCE ABUSE & CONDUCT RULES
20_SECTION 4/ SUBSTANCE ABUSE & CONDUCT RULES Substance use and personal conduct are evaluated as seriously as athletic performance. Violations in these areas can derail recruiting opportunities and college careers quickly.
Substance Abuse Policies College programs enforce strict rules regarding drugs, alcohol, and banned substances. This includes recreational drugs, performance-enhancing drugs, and misuse of prescription medication. NCAA drug testing and institutional testing policies apply.
Supplement Awareness Not all supplements are safe or legal. Athletes are responsible for what they ingest—even accidental ingestion of banned substances can result in suspension or loss of eligibility.
Alcohol & Social Behavior Underage drinking, public incidents, and poor decision-making are red flags for college coaches. Social media posts and legal issues are routinely reviewed during recruiting.
Conduct & Character Evaluation Coaches recruit trust. Behavior in school, on campus, online, and in the community reflects directly on an athlete’s reliability and maturity.
Team & Institutional Policies Beyond NCAA rules, each program enforces its own conduct standards. Violations can impact playing time, scholarships, and roster status.
Key Takeaway Talent gets attention—discipline keeps opportunity. Athletes who protect their health, reputation, and decision-making protect their future.
